Hydraulic Laboratory

A hydraulic laboratory is essential for testing and optimizing hydraulic structures, sediment management systems, and hydropower components before implementing it in full-scale on-site. It helps verify designs, improve efficiency, and minimize risks by studying flow behavior, energy dissipation, sediment transport, and safe passage of floating debris. By reducing design flaws, operational risks and its associated costs, the hydraulic laboratory contributes to safer, more reliable, and more sustainable water infrastructure.

Our hydraulic laboratory is equipped with the space, facilities, instrumentation and equipment required for physical hydraulic model studies. This includes:

  • Total available area 5,387 m^2
  • Roofed model test area 2,300 m^2 comprising 5 individual trussed sheds
  • Underground reservoir of capacity 268,000 liters
  • Pumps with approximately 700 lps discharge capacity (can be upgraded as necessary)
  • Well-equipped mechanical and carpentry workshop for the fabrication of experimental facilities
  • Velocity Meters
    1. SonTek, Acoustic Doppler Velocity Meter (Micro ADV)
    2. Micro Propeller
    3. Pitot Tubes
    4. High speed cameras
  • Water level recorder/sensors and data acquisition system
  • Pressure Transducers and data acquisition system
  • CAD design system
  • Numerical modelling (CFD, Morphology and Eco-hydraulics)
  • Hydraulic flume (L x B x H)
