Sediment Laboratory
A sediment laboratory is essential for water resources projects because sediment transport & deposition significantly impact the performance and safety of hydraulic structures. It helps in analyzing sediment characteristics of rivers, which is critical for designing efficient sediment management strategies in water resources projects, mainly hydropower projects. By providing scientific data and innovative solutions, the sediment lab enhances project efficiency, reduces maintenance costs, and ensures the long-term sustainability of water resources infrastructure.
Our sediment laboratory is equipped with the instrumentation and equipment required for suspended sediment sampling and laboratory analyses of sediment samples. This includes:
- Hand held samplers
- Depth integrating samplers
- Vacuum pump filtering system with several manifolds
- Electronic balances
- Muffle furnace & drying ovens
- Visual Accumulation (VA) Tube for particle size distribution analyses of sand fraction
- LS 13 320 Laser diffraction particle size analyser
- Stereoscopic microscope for mineral content analysis
- Trinocular polarized microscope for petrographic analysis
Hydro Lab’s sediment laboratory is capable of analyzing the sediment samples for concentration, particle size distribution, mineral content and organic matters content.
